Oyster Bay
Regional Shoreline

General Information
Oyster Bay R.S. is located in San Leandro, and is part of the East Bay Regional Park system. Contrary to what the EBRP web site says, the entire path along the shoreline is paved. Originally a landfill, it is being redesigned as a place to jog, fish, picnic, and watch the planes at nearby Oakland International Airport. A paved path follows the shoreline for approximately 2 miles, with benches positioned along the way. A group picnic area with water and toilet facilities is located atop the hill.
Fishing Information
Spring and summer is the best time to visit. Stripers occasionally appear in tremendous numbers, and the sharks and rays provide a good alternate choice. During a three-day period in the summer of '96, I caught and released 50+ stripers a day tossing 3/4 ounce Kastmasters. Granted, it hasn't been the same for me since, but during a high tide, the potential is there. A more reliable choice would be to fish for the leopard sharks and bat rays, which come quite close to shore. Just grab some frozen squid, oysters, or shrimp. A rod that can handle 2-3 oz. weights. A reel spooled with 20-pound test, and some shark leaders.
Directions
Take I880 to the Marina blvd. west exit. Follow the road toward the bay until it intersects with Neptune Drive. Turn north to the end.
